The Sun kept finding me
Even though I kept moving away from her.
So I stopped and fell back
To give my skin extra time in Darkness.
And Darkness was happy to oblige.
She slowly extended her long, soft arms toward me.
In her hands was a blanket made of winter wool.
Scratchy and warm. Heavy and comforting.
She asked if I wanted a softer, lighter blanket.
No.
I liked how the scratchiness kept me awake to sit with Darkness.
How the heaviness around my shoulders began to lift the weight from my heart.
I didn’t need to find a replacement for the gift she had given me:
Permission to hibernate with Darkness
And listen to what she needed to tell me.
I worked through the guilt of not being in Sun’s center stage
For all the world to see.
And when it is time to spring forward
I will release the gift that Darkness has given me from around my shoulders
And step fully into the Sun.
Wow, amazing and beautiful! 😍❤️

Libby, I read “Falling Back” multiple times, and each time my perceptions were enhanced. It is a very thought-provoking work.
Great work!
